If you were sitting here with me, we would be drinking tea out of bone china, and talking about all things beauty. My passion is to celebrate the beauty within each and every person, drawing out their inner beauty by artfully arranging the outer elements of hair and make-up. My love of history also weaves in and out of all my endeavors, and forms the foundation for the heart of Jennylafleur.

Art and artistry, history and beauty, all that is missing is you! Pour yourself a beverage, click around, and explore how together we can celebrate you!

Stylist

I love hair & make up. No really, I LOVE what I do. I've always been a girly-girl who browsed style magazines and played with my own hair and make-up. In time, I realized that the beauty industry was where my dream career lay, and now I revel in the opportunities this dream life gives me to invest in the lives of others.

I am a professionally licensed Hair Stylist & Make-Up Artist, based in historic Fredericksburg Virginia. I specialize in on-site Styling & Finishing - Updos, Blowouts & Make-Up Applications. For those who Time-Travel to their special events, I also specialize in historically inspired hair styles and make-up application. I work on-site so my clients can enjoy the luxury and convenience of getting ready at home or on location.

As a stylist and artist I live for the classic and the romantic, timeless looks and elegant styles. When it comes to makeup artistry I am naturally drawn to restrained glamour, believing strongly in the importance of enhancing each person’s unique beauty rather than trying to cover every "flaw" or simply following the trends of the day.

history + hair

My enduring passion is the combination of my love of history with my training in hair styling & cosmetics. I am a history nerd by inclination, and a historically inspired costumer by choice. I delight in turning period research into recreations of the past, as well as taking inspiration and techniques from original sources and using them in modern styling.

If I was forced to pick my favorite period of historical hair styling to recreate, it would have to be the late 18th century, but I also adore the retro/pin-up styles of the 1940s-1950s, and I have a special place in my heart for the fabulously romantic hair styles of the Edwardian era. The best part of doing this for myself and others is that I don’t have to choose just one look or one era of the past!

As a stylist, I am available for on-site styling for historic balls, conventions or history events as well as historical wig styling. I also design, manufacture, and sell my own line of hair forms in my Historic Hair Shop, as a variety of styled hair pieces and accessories to complete your historically inspired look. As an Educator I have created a growing library of online classes & tutorials to share my professional knowledge, experience and passion for historical hairdressing.

Costumer

Researching, designing and creating a finished garment from a flat piece of fabric is my happy place and has been my personal hobby since I was a teen. I no longer take sewing commissions, or sell my costumes, choosing to focus on my hair and make-up work instead.

The Costuming section of this website is the result of sharing my costuming adventures online for nearly 20 years. The generosity, resources, pictures, 'dress diaries', research, and tutorials of online costumers have been invaluable to me over the years. Frankly I wouldn't be the seamstress I am today without all this help, inspiration and encouragement! I thought it only fair to share my own projects, experiences and occasional moments of cleverness.
