Hair Cushions or "Toques", were pads 18th century hair dressers used as the foundation for 18th century hairstyles to create height and volume. They were made of various materials and in many different shapes in the last few decades of the century.

The Lamballe Set includes two “Lamballe” style cushions and two nylon mesh donuts. The “Lamballe” style cushion is a loop shape that is appropriate for the "Hedgehog" style of the 1780s and 1790s.

Designed to have curls in the middle and on either side of the loop, these cushions provides a base to pin curls into, creating the correct shape as well as providing a study base for headwear worn on top of it. This set of two loop cushions can be worn at the apex, crown or below the crown of the head, depending on where structure is needed or for the desired Hedgehog style. When pinned into the side of the head, above the ears, the mesh donuts add volume and structure to the sides of the head, creating the wide style of the 1780s and 1790s.

Each looped Hair Cushion is handcrafted, made from multiple layers of nylon netting, stuffed with nylon mesh fibers and is secured to the hair with high quality wig clips. It measures approx 1.25" high, 8.5" long, 2.5" wide. The mesh donuts can be secured to the hair and/or looped cushions with bobby pins (not included). This set can be used as a foundation for your own hair or in wig styling.
